Organic Manure & Fertiliser at Ibanda
At Ibanda Farm, we are committed to sustainable, environmentally friendly farming practices that restore the land while feeding our communities. One of our most important pillars is the production and use of organic manure and natural fertilisers — a practice that not only reduces dependency on chemical inputs but also enhances long-term soil health and crop productivity.
Farming in harmony with nature is part of our philosophy. By turning everyday farm waste into rich, nutrient-filled compost, we create a closed-loop system where nothing is wasted and everything contributes to life. The animal droppings from our goats and poultry, the leftover crop stalks, and even kitchen waste from the farmhouse are carefully processed into natural fertiliser that rejuvenates our fields — from matooke plantations and maize gardens to vegetable beds and nursery plants.
Organic manure is more than a soil additive; it is the foundation of resilient, regenerative agriculture. Through this approach, we are rebuilding soil fertility, reducing erosion, improving water retention, and lowering costs for our farm and surrounding smallholders. As chemical prices rise and climate conditions shift, our organic systems offer farmers a safe, cost-effective, and sustainable path forward.
By investing in organic fertilisers, Ibanda Farm is investing in the future of farming — one handful of healthy soil at a time.

Why Organic Manure?
Organic manure is more than just natural waste — it’s a living resource full of nutrients, beneficial microbes, and organic matter that improve soil structure and fertility. Unlike synthetic fertilisers, organic manure feeds the soil, not just the plant, enhancing long-term productivity without harming soil life or polluting water sources.
At Ibanda, we collect animal droppings (from goats and poultry), leftover crop materials, food scraps, and dry leaves to make nutrient-rich compost and biofertilisers. These are applied to our maize fields, matooke plantations, vegetable gardens, and nursery beds to promote vibrant plant growth without relying on harmful chemicals.
A Closed-Loop Farming System
Our approach to organic fertiliser is part of a circular farming model, where nothing goes to waste:
Goats and chickens provide manure
Crop residues are mulched and composted
Kitchen waste is added to compost pits
The final compost is returned to the land to nourish new crops
This eco-friendly system helps us conserve resources, reduce emissions, and strengthen our crops against pests and diseases naturally.
Benefits of Using Organic Fertiliser
✅ Improves soil texture and water retention
✅ Restores essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium
✅ Promotes microbial activity and root development
✅ Increases yields sustainably over time
✅ Protects the environment from chemical runoff
✅ Cost-effective for smallholder and organic farmers
Blending & Custom Application
Our team at Ibanda carefully manages the decomposition and curing process to ensure our manure is fully matured and safe for crop use. We sometimes blend in natural additives like charcoal ash, ground eggshells, and banana peels to create targeted mixes for specific crops. These custom blends support everything from leafy vegetables to deep-rooted fruit trees.
We also train local farmers and youth groups on how to make and apply organic fertiliser, helping spread the benefits of sustainable farming across the community.
Greener Growth for a Better Future
By using organic manure and fertiliser, Ibanda Farm is building resilient farming systems that enrich the soil year after year. Our goal is to produce food that is healthy, affordable, and safe, while restoring the land for future generations. Whether it’s bananas, maize, vegetables, or herbs, every crop at Ibanda grows from the ground up — naturally.
